General Description
North Country HealthCare (NCHC) sponsors an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited Family & Community Medicine Residency Program incorporating the Teaching Health Center model. The primary responsibilities of residents at NCHC are to provide competent, compassionate patient care, work effectively as a member of the healthcare team, and meet the education goals of the residency program. Resident education involves supervised, progressively more complex and independent patient evaluation and patient management functions and formal educational activities. NCHC residents must meet the qualification for resident eligibility as outlined by the ACGME Resident Appointment Eligibility Requirements and as stated in the NCHC Resident Eligibility, Selection, Appointment Policy.

Essential Function
Participate in a structured competency-based education program that meets the current program requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Participate in and follow a personal program of professional growth in conjunction with the formal educational and training of the residency program sponsored by NCHC.
Appointment as a resident at NCHC is done via an annual agreement or contract which is renewable for continuation in and completion of the residency program based upon successful performance and progress.
Participate in safe, effective and compassionate patient care, commensurate with their level of advancement, competence and responsibility under the supervision of appropriately privileged attending clinicians.
Participate in the educational activities of the program and, as required, assume responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and medical students.
Perform procedures as required by the program, with graded supervision as per GME policies.
Read, become familiar with and abide by the policies and procedures set forth in the Resident Handbook and the NCHC Employee Handbook, which applies to the extent not inconsistent with Resident Handbook policies, ABFM, and/or ACGME.
Participate in creating a positive learning environment with self and with others.
Participate on NCHC and medical staff committees whose actions affect resident education and patient care. These assignments may include: the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC); applicable Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Committees; Clinical Competency Committees. Participate in educational programs dealing with physician impairment, substance abuse, and sleep deprivation.
Be willing to accept, process and implement constructive feedback from the Program Director, supervisory attendings, preceptors, and staff regarding performance on rotations and in the clinic. This includes both formative and summative feedback. Be willing to offer constructive feedback to colleagues, peers, faculty and staff.
Abide by attendance requirements.
Participate in continuous learning in both personal and professional development.
Consistent review, comprehension and reply of company email and related correspondence.
Participate in any mandatory surveys required by the ACGME and/or NCHC including, but not limited to, collection of information related to duty hours compliance, completion of annual safety and compliance training and submission of an annual disclosure statement.
Graduation from a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or graduation from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA) or graduation from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada and holding a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
